Christmas Letter

December 2022

Merry Christmas,

What makes the season for you? Is it church? Jesus? Christmas Carols? Family? For me, they are all family. And there’s more. I look forward to the family meals, stories, & memories… which are the best gifts of all. This year my boys asked what comes in the stockings. I told them the little oranges – because that was what my parents looked forward to. Memories as gifts handed down from generation to generation.

But, of course, little oranges aren’t the best Christmas memory passed along. In her song, Mary sings
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.(Luke 1: 48b-50)

and Mary goes on to sing about how amazing God is and will always be. And we go on to hear and tell the rest of the story of God’s love coming into the world like never before – and changing it forever. This memory lights up the future from generation to generation.

What memories will you be making this year? At Kensington we’ll be telling the Christmas story by sharing the memories of the people involved, including those that came before, and those that came after – because it’s important to remember and share this story.

We have a number of memory making-opportunities in the week of Christmas:

  • The Advent devotional book – it’s not too late to start, just ask for a copy.
  • Sunday, 18th: Children’s Special participation in worship at 10:30
  • Wednesday, 21st: Longest Night Worship at 7:30: for a safe time to remember the sorrows that can be with us at Christmas
  • Thursday, 22nd: Christmas Caroling at 7:30. Leaving from the church, and returning for warming
  • Saturday, 24th: Christmas Eve at 7:00
  • Sunday, 25th: Christmas Day at 10:30 – we’ll share memories, Carols and prayers

We’re also pleased to dedicate this Christmas special offering to our ministry with children, youth and families – to building memories from generations to generation. This will include special activities, a weekly gathering offering food, fellowship & movies, and looking into more opportunities we can offer next autumn. Thank you for your gifts.

Merry Christmas
